About the presenters:

   Darold and Barbara Bigger

On June 16, 1996—Father’s Day—25 year-old Shannon Bigger was heartlessly murdered. In this five-part series, Barbara and Darold Bigger share how God led them through the tragic loss of their daughter and what they have learned about forgiveness.

Barbara Bigger was raised in northeastern Montana then attended Walla Walla College where she met Darold.  They married in 1966.  She earned a BA degree in English, an MA degree in secondary counseling, and later an AA certificate in Interior Design.

While Darold was pastoring at La Sierra, Barbara owned and operated Barbara Jean’s Interiors in Loma Linda.  Biggers moved to Walla Walla in 1980 where Barbara started the Career Center at Walla Walla University and in 1984 became the manager of the Walla Walla Campus Store.  As director she was able to combine her love of interior design and books.

When she retired, she devoted her time to caregiving for her father and Darold’s mother before they died, then to Darold’s sister during her final illness. Now she has time for hobbies including stamping, card making, counted cross-stitch, travel and reading.

Darold Bigger was raised in the west and began pastoral internship in Idaho and Oregon before going to seminary in Michigan and postgraduate school in California. He pastored several rural congregations, was an associate at the La Sierra University church, then senior pastor of the Walla Walla University church. In 1993 he joined the faculty at Walla Walla University and taught Religion and Social Work then was Assistant to the President, and retired as Dean of the School of Social Work and Sociology.

A certified clinical social worker, licensed marriage and family therapist, and board certified chaplain, he specialized in leadership, counseling and spiritual development classes.

A Navy Reserve chaplain for nearly 30 years, he retired as a Rear Admiral, finishing his career as Deputy Chief of Navy Chaplains for Reserve Matters and Director of Religious Programs for the Navy, Marine and Coast Guard Reserve, for which he was awarded the Navy’s highest non-combat award, the Distinguished Service Medal.

Barbara and Darold have two children, Shannon (deceased) and Hilary (married to Kris Catlett) and a foster daughter, Rosemary.  Hilary and Kris are the parents of two grandchildren and Rosemary is mother to three, all certifiably precious!
